Opening Day 2008...

posted by midnightslice on March 27, 2008
...is just around the corner. A few notes:

-Word came today that the Giants removed all references to Barry Bonds from AT&T Park today. Understandable... but it's a classless move. Steroids or not, perjury suspicions or not, this man was the face of your franchise since 1993. Not only did he bring the franchise millions of dollars and media attention with his home run chase, but his mere presence helped attendance last year on a ballclub that would otherwise be... the current San Francisco Giants roster. The Giants used him and just tossed him aside when it suited them. Absolute crap.

-Development on this site has been neglected since I'm working on updating the site over at Project Prospect, which hopefully will take off even more with a new design. Until work there slows down a bit, things here will be pretty slow. In the meantime, visit the main site over at projectprospect.com and the new design at projectprospectbeta.com

Opening Day is almost here! Hopefully this season will be... bearable.

9/24/2007 Misc. Notes

It wouldn't be a Giants game without Pedro Feliz striking out... or a Ray Durham double-play.

And that "Your SF Giants" commercial where Barry Zito asks for a nickname... tonight's not the night to rip into that.

11-3 Padres. Cue the "My Way" montage on the Giantboard for Barry Bonds. There probably isn't a more fitting song for him.

Barry Bonds Farewell: Final At-Bat, End of 6th

2-0 fastball, swing to center field. Caught at the deepest part of the ballpark and that's it.

Bonds gives a hug to Jake Peavy for allowing him a shot, and points to Bud Black. After some congratulatory hugs and handshakes in the dugout, Barry Bonds takes his final curtain call as a Giant to the cheers of the crowd. He applauds the loyal fans who stayed behind him these past fifteen years before heading in for the final time.

He pats the wall and gives a hug inside to a sweatshirt-clad Noah Lowry before heading up the stairs and giving his son Nikolai a hug.

It's over, folks. After all the ups and downs, it's a heartfelt goodbye to Barry Bonds, the man who quite probably saved baseball in San Francisco and helped to build the beautiful gem of a ballpark by the bay.

Barry Bonds Farewell: Top 5th

It's getting ugly. 7-1 Padres, and Misch is out. Future member of the rotation? Probably not right now.

Barry Bonds is apparently a computer nerd/gadget freak. And now also into bows with Ryan Klesko. And he snores.

Most games spent as Bonds' teammate:
1) J.T. Snow
2) Rich Aurillia
3) Jeff Kent.

Changeup swung on by Bonds. He stumbles and limps out of the box as he grounded out to first. That could be it.

BTW, those orange signs in the crowd all say "Thanks Barry!"

Niiice pick by Pedro Feliz to end the inning. Vizquel is also still his defensive self at short. Both Gold Glove worthy? I think so.

Barry Bonds Farewell: Top 2nd

2-2 groundout to first for Barry Bonds. No overshift by the Padres, I guess they figure... he'll be hitting it to the opposite field on his last home game as a Giant?

Barry Bonds Farewell: Bottom 1st #2

Two-out HR by Randy Winn to right field. Barry Bonds now up. HR Tracker up for one of the final times.

Flashback:

Jake Peavy, probable Cy Young winner this year, on the hill. Bonds hit his 700th HR against him in 2004.
